After the first day we had a good base on what we were doing at Andras’s photography seminar and moved to the Hotel Art’s for another photo shoot , this time with a couple.  We played with using a soft  continous light to natural light from the windows. We all had a good time trying to get a couple of good shots and experimenting with it.

Got an opportunity to take a seminar with Calgary photographer Andras Schram who has a talent for creating wedding and fashion photography.

As an artist I always like to develop my skills and I call this seminar a part of my “Artistic Development”.

Day 1 was spent in the Inglewood area of Calgary which has some unique features that work well for this type of photography. We had a two ladies one dressed in her wedding dress and one as a bridesmaid to simulate a wedding shoot. The afternoon we photographed a couple like an engagement, fashion shoot style.

Trying different angles, lenses and working with natural lighting situations ( a big part of what Andras teaches) it gave me a different perspective as a videographer.

I’ve done a lot of daytime time lapse, but decided to give the night a try. With it being dark out and thinking of timing and all that good stuff , here is what I shot with a Canon 7D and a Sigma 10-20mm lens . I think it’s pretty dramatic .

Rundle Mountain Cycling Club in Canmore put on a great event  on Oct 1, 2011 at the Canmore Nordic Centre. With all the volunteers and great donations from sponsors the event was a success on a fall day with a sprinkle of showers. The kids had a great time and here are some pictures to check out.

Was filming a wedding for a couple in Calgary as a last minute request, so thought I might as well get some great photos of the decor and pass them onto Lynn Fletcher who’s team did an awesome job as usual.

As  filmmaker, videographer for the past 10 years I almost forgot the joy of photography.  I have been using a Canon 7D and most recently a 60D for video, but now once in a while I turn it on to photo – (yes funny how I bought the camera to shoot video!) and I snap away.  I come to enjoy taking a few detail shots at weddings mainly for myself interest, but had an opportunity to pop in at a wedding my friend Lynn Fletcher designer extraordinare was doing and took a few detail shots, hoping she could use them on her website or elsewhere. The lighting guys were testing their system doing a last minute check , so had a mixture of lights going on from white to pink to red.

It’s amazing with what you can do with the light that exists in a room without a flash, that is if you have the right lens. All technical things aside, it was a few shots, but I was like a little kid with a new toy, except the new toy wasn’t so new, it was like I discovered that the toy actually was like a transformer becoming something I never knew I would like  soo much again. Hopefully I’ll be able to take some time and shoot some more stuff and post on the website. For now back to filming and editing.

Every one knows the Mac Mini is that little box that can. The little box came out a few years back and made a big impact on the PC world , when it allowed PC owners a chance to make a small investment in this Apple product that only needed a monitor, keyboard and mouse, which most PC owners had.

The latest Mac Mini has made things easier to replace RAM and hard drives. It used to be you needed a spanner to crack it open , very difficult and not really worth the head ache. It’s smaller now and even allows it to be used as a server. I know some companies use it for their Digital signage being more reliable than a PC when it comes to working overtime. Yes you play a little more for this than a cheap PC but after all it’s an Apple and Steve and the boys need to make more good stuff , so you pay a little more. RD is not free.

The Mac Mini can be used for 3D games with it’s great graphics card inside that move at great speeds. I recently saw an article comparing the Mac Mini and Apple TV and really they are two different animals so why compare. I know one thing is that this would certainly be a good potential Media Centre with the added addition of HDMI connection to display on your latest HD TV, 800 Firewire and 4 USB ports, super drive DVD recorder. Oh yeah forgot it’s more enviro friendly a it only uses 10 watts of power.

I think I’ll replace my old family 17 inch IMac , a new 22 inch screen can be had for $150 now adays.
