You can always have it on an external hard drive as well. I just removed over 100 GB of IPhoto onto an external drive from my Laptop. I could get it to connect with my IMac , but not using Apple TV for Photos. Mainly for video. Yeah hard drive is gone, they depend on you networking through your Itunes on your main desktop.
